The town is known especially for the Madonna del Parto, a famous fresco by Piero della Francesca painted between 1455 and 1465 in honor of his mother, Roman Perino from Monterchi, native place. The fresco, originally destined to the Chapel of Santa Maria di Momentana, is preserved at the Museum of the Madonna del Parto by Piero della Francesca.
